A P.A.R.T. USA Advocacy Statement
Chronic Pain Is 24/7/365: Awareness Must Become Action
Chronic pain does not arrive for one awareness month and disappear when the calendar changes. It affects people every hour of every day, throughout every season and every year.
Awareness matters—but awareness without meaningful action is not enough.
People living with chronic pain need more than recognition. They need access to individualized medical care, protection from harmful blanket policies, respect for the doctor-patient relationship, and a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their lives.
A ribbon, proclamation, social-media post, or designated month can help people understand that chronic pain exists. But awareness must lead to better treatment, stronger protections, responsible policy, and real accountability when patients are harmed.
The truth is simple
Pain does not follow a calendar.
Chronic pain can affect a person’s ability to work, sleep, move, care for family, participate in the community, and live with dignity. Patients should not have to continually prove that their suffering is real or defend medically appropriate treatment.
P.A.R.T. USA believes care must be based on the individual patient—not an arbitrary number, inflexible formula, corporate policy, or fear-driven interpretation of guidance.
What meaningful action requires
Recognition must lead to change.
Individualized Care
Treatment decisions must reflect the patient’s medical history, condition, needs, risks, response to treatment, and quality of life.
Doctor-Patient Primacy
Qualified medical professionals and their patients must be allowed to make good-faith clinical decisions without improper interference.
Protection From Harm
Patients must be protected from forced tapers, abrupt abandonment, discriminatory policies, and the denial of medically appropriate care.
Patient Representation
People living with pain must have a meaningful place in legislative, regulatory, healthcare, and public-policy discussions.
Responsible Policy
Laws and policies should be based on evidence, recognize individual differences, and be evaluated for unintended patient harm.
Year-Round Commitment
Chronic pain advocacy cannot end when an awareness campaign does. Education, representation, and action must continue all year.
Our position
Patients deserve more than one month of acknowledgment.
P.A.R.T. USA will continue working throughout the year to protect pain patients, support responsible medical care, educate the public, and advocate for policies that recognize the realities of chronic pain.
Chronic pain is 24/7/365.
Our advocacy must be too.
Because pain is not a crime.
Turn awareness into action
